The Civil Society Pillar of the Community of Democracies salutes the upcoming presidential election in the world’s second largest Democracy, and strongly encourages all U.S. citizens eligible to vote to carry out their civic duty and cast their ballot.
In what appears to be a very close race, and after a very hard-fought campaign, we have taken note of extensive domestic and international mis- and dis-information, which is a problem increasingly common around the world. Nonetheless, no matter the final result, we are deeply hopeful that the American people will peacefully accept the results.
Any allegations of election irregularities should be reported to the proper bodies, which should be allowed sufficient time to adjudicate them fairly. We urge all sides to condemn any acts of violence that may occur in the post-election period.
With almost 25 years of experience promoting mutual support among democracies around the world, the Civil Society Pillar of the Community of Democracies understands that Democracy is never perfect, but it is a path that societies must continuously walk along. In the future, we look forward to continuing working together with U.S. partners to further strengthen democratic values everywhere.
